Stay in for a Game Night
Summer is here, and so is the hot weather. Take some time off and and relax from the heat by inviting friends over and playing games! This week on the Ledges at Johnston Blog, we’ll share with you games that you can play with friends right in your apartment here in Johnston, RI.
Enjoy a game of observation and deception by jumping into a game of mafia. For this game, you’ll need a moderator (someone who can oversee the game) assisting in pushing the game forward and telling how the events of each round unfold and ensuring no one is cheating or peeking.
The moderator doles out roles to the players. Each player gets a specific role. At its simplest, players are separated into mafia (the bad guys), the detective (the good guy), or villagers (the unsuspecting people). The game revolves around phases: a day phase and a night phase. During the night phase, when everyone’s eyes are closed, the mafia get an opportunity to take someone out of the game. The detective then gets to use their ability to learn if a specific player is one of the mafia. The day phase is the phase when the entire group gets to decide who the mafia is. The game ends when there are either no more mafia or there are an equal number of mafia and villagers.
Work with your friends to save the world from four deadly diseases that have been released. Experience the intense cooperative gameplay that Pandemic has to offer. Rather than pitting players against each other, players need to rely on each other to achieve their main goal of curing all the diseases. Choose between several roles (dispatcher, medic, scientist, researcher, or operations expert) and coordinate the best moves on your turns to prevent the diseases from spreading!
There are two decks of cards in Apples to Apples: Things and Descriptions. Players are dealt a hand from the Things deck. Each round, a player picks a card from the Descriptions deck to show the rest of the group. Players then secretly pick a card from their hand of Things cards and place it facedown on the table. The player who picked the Descriptions card then gets to view the pile of Things and chooses their favorite. The person whose card was picked then becomes the next player to pick a Description card. The game ends when a player receives a predetermined amount of Descriptions cards.
